Ah yes, choir camp. This day is easily one of the best highlights of symphonic choir. Every year, the Bradley symphonic choir, our choir directors and even the Davidson choir director have a 3 day camp in this place called Heartland. (http://heartlandretreat.com/) The point of going to camp is for our choir to learn more about each other and become a family to create even more beautiful music. Day 1 was definitely a "fun" day rather than a "work" day. We found our rooming assignments inside of this huge facility with a great rehearsal area! We got to set up our room with our luggage and bed sheets before rehearsing. Once 2 hours of rehearsal for our upcoming concert was completed, all of the first-year members of symphonic lined up for their talent show! The talent show is a fun way for the newbies to be "initiated" into our choir. Each member performs a talent which could be as silly as stating 9 facts about their future husband (Jake Gyllenhaal by Keaton Headley) or as serious as performing their own song they wrote on the piano. After each member performs, the current members give them a steak n shake hat that they will wear until the next day. Anytime it gets knocked off, they must sing "I'm A Little Teapot" dance moves and all! The week leading up to camp, each vocal section (Sopranos, Altos, Tenors, and Basses) came up with their own choreography to a sing for the first annual lip sync battle at camp! This was much more difficult than we thought it would be but we performed against each other after the Talent Show and it was a blast! The Altos ended up winning it but my section, the Sopranos, got second place.
