A New Experience

A few months ago, I got to embark on a new experience I have never been a part of before. The All-OCC Honors Choir held at Capital University. 40 choirs from the state of Ohio are selected to be a part of this collegiate event, but the catch is only 8 students from each school are selected to go. My choir director talked to me for awhile and said that I would be a wonderful addition to this event and I was so insanely happy. Not only could I say I was selected, but I'd be performing with some of the elite choir students in the state in front of an amazing collegiate choir director. To add to the difficulty, we were given 4 pieces of choral music to learn on our own and would be expected to know almost 100% by the day of this. Our day began at 7 am at Bradley and the seven students and I traveled to Capital University. Getting onto the campus I got this wonderful feeling that came over me. I felt so blessed in that moment to have been a part of such a wonderful choir that now I'm about to sing with other wonderful students in front of a huge audience. There were many meet and greet activities between all of us students before we split into sectionals and got to work with other high class directors on the pieces of music. It was a full 12 hour day of singing and meeting other students and even getting a tour of Capital which turns out is the college I am going to next year and singing in their choir. After many hours of rehearsing, we all got to put on our high school robes and got on stage and performed for a full house of people. Many faculty members, students at Capital, and parents attended and I couldn't help but picture myself here next year. The joy I felt on that collegiate stage, feeling the lights. It was amazing and I don't want to be without it. I definitely will be at this concert next year to see what students from Bradley end up being selected!
